About the NANM
The NANM is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee established to promote learning and knowledge sharing about localism and community involvement in local decision-making. Our income comes solely from projects and commissions and we receive no core funding.
Most of our work is carried out in England, although we also conduct some work in other parts of the UK, and Europe.
The data we collect
There are two main reasons we might collect and hold information about you:
- NANM network emails about our work, our events, and for sharing learning – our principle aim is promoting learning and knowledge sharing and since we began our NANM mailing list has been an important way we do this. We consider those on our email list to be our ‘network’ of individuals who are interested in what we do and share our aims. If you are on this list you will have either signed up to receive our news by contacting us directly, or via our website, or you will have asked to be kept in touch having come to one of our events.
- Our projects – we have always delivered projects for other organisations as part of our business model and these also relate to learning and knowledge sharing, often through learning events and workshops. This means we often collect contact details from individuals as part of project delivery – relating to events (sending invites, managing attendees) and keeping people informed about the project.
Whatever the reason is for holding information about you, it will be kept in accordance with this privacy policy, and where we collect information about you ourselves we will always seek your explicit consent.
Data for sending NANM news emails about our work and events and to share learning
We send our NANM network emails via a third-party provider – Mailchimp. The personal information we require to send news emails is stored by Mailchimp under their own privacy terms. We use Mailchimp because of their commitment to protecting privacy, and because their systems make it easy for you to manage your data and opt-out at any time. Mailchimp also have controls to prevent personal information being abused – for instance they can stop the use of their service by organisations which appear to be sending emails without the consent of recipients (i.e. spam).
Should anyone wish to unsubscribe from our news emails there are clear instructions on every news email we send. Alternatively you can send a request to be removed from the news email to info@neighbourhoodmanagement.net or by writing to National Association for Neighbourhood Management, Europoint Centre, 5-11 Lavington Street, London SE1 0NZ.
We sometimes undertake online surveys of those on our mailing list, and others who are interested, and for this we use a third-party online survey platform – SurveyMonkey. The personal information we collect and store through SurveyMonkey is governed by their own privacy terms. If we need to make a copy of data collected by SurveyMonkey to keep on our own systems we will encrypt or anonymise data, or protect it some other way proportionate to the risks we perceive.
We do not transfer data about individuals we obtain from SurveyMonkey to our network email list, but we do suggest to those who take part in our surveys that they may wish to join our email list.
We hold periodic NANM public events once or twice each year. For managing information about individuals who attend our public events, confirming places, and sending joining instructions we use a third-party provider – Eventbrite who have their own privacy terms.
We do not transfer data we obtain from Eventbrite to our network email list, but those who attend one of our public events are usually asked when they attend an event (as part of signing in) whether they would like to join our network email list.
When delivering projects for other organisations
When we hold events as part of a project for another organisation we will use either Eventbrite or the other organisation’s own systems.
We never transfer personal information we obtain in the course of delivering a project for another organisation to our own network email list.
When communicating with individuals as part of a project we are delivering on behalf of another organisation we use separate systems to our own network mailing list and we never transfer personal information we obtain in the course of delivering a project for another organisation to our own network email list.
Sharing your personal data
We do not pass on personal information to third party organisation without the subject’s explicit permission. For example if we collect data from you as part of a project for another organisations, we will not pass your information to that organisation without your consent. If we are working with a subcontractor we will not pass your information to our subcontractor without your consent.
The only exception to this is where we are under a duty to disclose or share your personal data in order to comply with any legal obligation.
We never share your information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Third party links
Our website includes links to websites owned by other organisations. If you follow these links, those other organisations may collect information in accordance with their own privacy policies which are beyond our control and not covered by our privacy policy.
Data security
We have a number of data security safeguards to ensure that data we held is secure and where appropriate either encrypted or protected by other means. Wherever possible we use third party platforms for storing our most sensitive data – in particular mailing lists, event organisation, and questionnaire responses. Data files with large volumes of personal data and/or sensitive data, when held on our own systems are encrypted or otherwise protected against access except by those explicitly authorised.
